Introduction

Dobermanns are another one of the most iconic dog breeds in the world and are famous for their incredibly high intelligence levels, their adaptability to fit nicely into any household, and their loyal and fun-loving nature that all come together to make a fantastic dog you won’t be able to help but love, even if they’re misbehaving every now and then!

History

Dobermanns have an extremely interesting history. Their breed started all the way back in the 1800s when a man named Herr Karl Louis Dobermann (you can see where this is going) lived in Germany as a tax and dog collector. Since his job could be dangerous, he wanted to breed the perfect guard and protection dog, which eventually led to the creation of the Dobermann.

Rumours have it that the breed comes from the heritage lines of dogs like Rottweilers, Weimaraners, and German Pinscher. Over the years, Dobermanns have become known as their own purebred breed and their company is enjoyed by households and services, such as the military, alike.

Personality

Dobermanns have a bit of a rough reputation. They were used for many years as a popular breed of fighting dogs, meaning that aggression and ferociousness were bred into them, playing off of their already fearless and protective nature. This is why the dogs are still used within the military and commonly as police dogs.

However, through responsible, selective breeding and through proper training from a young age, Dobermanns can be incredibly gentle and sweet. Sure, they can still be protective, especially if feeling threatened by other dogs or strangers, but an assertive attitude can quickly keep this behaviour under control.
