Introduction

As the name suggests, if you cross-breed a Golden Retriever with a German Shepherd, you get a beautiful Golden Shepherd. These are beloved dogs that take all the best and most captivating traits from their parent breeds to make an incredibly heart-warming pup that will steal your heart and leave you breathless. If you’re looking for an easy-to-care-for, easy-to-love dog that only wants to make you happy, there are few better options than the Golden Shepherd.

History

Golden Shepherds are a fairly new breed to the dog world, so there’s not that much history to share. What we do know, however, is that these dogs first started to appear around the 1990s when they were intentionally bred as designer dogs, and have gained popularity ever since.

As for the parent breeds, well, we all know they’ve been around for centuries. Golden Retrievers date back as far as the early 1800s when they were bred as working dogs, and German Shepherds have been around since before 1899.

Personality

While you may be apprehensive about adopting a Golden Shepherd, perhaps due to the tabooed aggressive history of the German Shepherd, remember that a lot of these ideas are pretty much unfounded. Combined with the calm, loving nature of the Golden Retriever, Golden Shepherds are lovable dogs that are incredibly eager to make you happy.

That being said, Golden Shepherds do need a fair bit of training as they can be a little apprehensive around strangers, children, and other pets or animals. However, training is fairly easy as long as you’re consistent, meaning you’ll be left with a happy dog that makes for a great member of your family.
