Introduction

The Alaskan Klee Kai is a modern, purebred dog. ‘Klee Klai’ means ‘little dog,’ and this smaller version of the common Husky comes in three sizes: toy, miniature and standard.

Some good news for lazy owners - this breed is self-cleaning, and so they don’t need to be bathed as often as others! However, you will need to invest in a decent hoover, as during the winter months Klee Kais’ shed a LOT of hair.

History

The history of this dog is very recent, as the Alaskan Klee Kai has only been around since the 1970s. A woman named Linda Spurlin and her family created the dog by combining four breeds, including the Alaskan and Siberian Husky. Linda aimed to create a ‘companion’ version of the working husky; one that is more suited to being a domesticated pet, both physically and mentally.

Personality

These pooches are eager to please their owner and love being the centre of their attention. This is one of the main differences between the Klee Kai and the husky: they are much more suited to living in a household. They can be overlooked due to their small size, however, their intelligence and high levels of energy make them a perfect match for agility training.

One of the best traits of this pooch is its caring nature. It’s full of love for its owners, but it needs to be given love in return. Without it, the Klee Kai may become anxious. He is shy around strangers, and so careful social training is needed to alleviate the effects of this.
