Introduction

Brittany Spaniels are one of those dogs you can see out and about, and seeing their little faces just melts your heart. Truly adorable in every way, Brittany Spaniels are full of energy and love, as well as being one of the most intelligent breeds of working dogs out there.

With a Brittany Spaniel, you really do get the best of all worlds since they’re fun-loving and playful and love nothing more than running around a field and enjoying the day, but are also fiercely compassionate and do everything they can to please their owners. A beautiful dog in every way.

History

Most reports of Brittany Spaniels date back to 18th Century France, where the spaniels were used as hunting gun dogs. What made Spaniels so great at what they did was that they were both muscular (ideal for dealing with the prey) and insanely fast.

It was around the 1930s when Brittany Spaniels started to gain popularity worldwide, especially in the US. They were quickly recognised by the American Kennel Club in 1934, and the name was shortened to just Brittney (which is how they are known today) in 1982.

Personality

Because Brittany dogs have so much energy they need to deal with, they will always be most happy when they have something to do. Whether that’s playing with the family, going for a walk or a run (making them ideal running companions, or playing with other dogs, if a Brittney is running or playing, it’s happy.

However, it’s important you’re aware that Brittney’s need consistent training, and you need to be gentle when doing it. They tend to become withdrawn and timid if strictly trained, which can ruin the bubbly and light nature this dog usually has.
