Introduction

There are few dogs more lovable and adorable than the Chipoo, a hybrid mix between the Chihuahua and Poodle. Small, energetic, but beautifully low-maintenance, Chipoos make for fantastic companionship dogs which is the exact reason they were bred. Suitable for any homes, if you’re looking for a friendly dog, a Chipoo could be the perfect pooch.

History

As a designer companionship dog, Chipoos have been around since about the 1970s, so there’s not much history since the breed is really just getting started. However, we do know a lot about the parent breeds. For example, Chihuahuas have been around since before 100AD when they were owned by Aztecs in Mexico and have remained in US culture ever since.

On the other hand, Poodles were originally hunting dogs in countries like Germany but were never really seen in the US until after World War II when they were exported over by French breeders. It’s only over the last few decades that the two breeds met and so Chipoos were born.

Personality

Chipoos are so full of their lovable, bubbly personality which makes it easy to see why so many people love to own them. Taking personality traits from both parents, Chipoos are friendly, gentle, and playful, that love spending time around their owners, usually showing them a lot of affection.

However, Chipoos do have a tendency to become bored very easily, so you’ll need to make sure you’re spending time with them, playing games, mentally stimulating them. If their energy levels are allowed to build up, Chipoos can act up and may even become a little destructive, so make sure you’re keeping an eye out for this!
