Introduction

One of the oldest and longest-standing dog breeds in the world, Dalmatians are nothing short of iconic. Their black and white spotted coats are instantly recognisable and the way these dogs live their lives are exactly how you imagine most dogs to be.

Highly intelligent, incredibly active, outstandingly loyal and always wanting a proper relationship with their owners and their families, it’s no wonder many owners believe that Dalmatians are the perfect breed.

History

Dalmatians are one of those dog breeds that go so far back in human history that we end up losing the records of where they actually came from. There’s evidence that goes back as far as 2000AD when Dalmatians were seen roaming around with Ancient Egyptians, Romans, and Ancient Greeks.

It’s thought that back in the day these were popular dogs among gipsies, and roaming around Europe as they did was how they were able to spread into the mainland and become popular everywhere. Of course, Dalmatians are still popular today, made even more famous by best-selling movie franchises and awe-inspiring attitudes.

Personality

Dalmatians are very people-orientated, meaning they love to spend time with their families and owners, and love playing, exercising, being out and about, and relaxing with them. Due to their intelligent and active way of life, Dalmatians are also known for being super playful, and you’re sure to get a few smiles from the way these dogs sometimes behave.

However, Dalmatians can get slightly protective if not socially trained from a young age, especially towards other dogs of the same sex, and just other dogs in general. However, you’ll notice that Dalmatians have a very natural love for horses, which can be heart-warming to watch.
