Introduction

By far one of the most popular and most iconic dog breeds in the world, the English Bulldog is one of the pride and joys of the UK and have been for a long time. English Bulldogs are actually a purebred breed that crosses English Bulldogs and Bull Terriers together to create a wonderful, loving, friendly dog that will steal you and your family’s heart from the moment you lay eyes on it!

There are hands down one of the best companion pets around!

History

Bull baiting was a British sport that many participated in back in the 12th Century, and even then small, thick-set dogs like the English Bulldog were used to herd the bulls and manage them. It’s said that these stocker ancestors were the foundations for the English Bulldogs we know and love today.

Come 1835, sports like bull baiting were made illegal, and while many thought the Bulldogs were going to be forgotten about since they were no longer needed, a few survived as companion dogs, and clearly these were loved since they’re still around and fulfilling this role to this day!

Personality

English Bulldogs can be a mixture of a lot of different temperaments depending on their parent dogs, their training, and their owners. They can be loyal, happy, affectionate, and loving, but they can also be aggressive and overly protective. It mostly all depends on the training, which is why it’s so important to start from a young age.

However, this is a good thing since English Bulldogs can learn easily and respond well to mental stimulation. If trained to be obedient and social, these make fantastic family dogs you can take anywhere without a problem.
