Introduction

While it’s true that the Field Spaniel is perhaps not the most well-known breed within the Spaniel family, and are registered on the vulnerable breeds list by the UK Kennel Club, there’s no denying these pups make great show dogs, and even better companionship dogs your whole family can fall in love with.

In true Spaniel fashion, Field Spaniels are lovers of being free in the Great Outdoors, and will happily spend most of their time running around, playing games, chasing balls, and looking good with their gorgeous coats as they get on with it!

History

Perhaps surprisingly, the records of Field Spaniels only go back around 150 years, which is a far cry from the centuries of history most other Spaniel-types have. These specific breeds were bred by crossing Sussex Spaniels and Cocker Spaniels.

However, popularity has fluxed over the years since the other Spaniel breeds are just that much more popular. They have even come close to extinction several times, but it’s the efforts of dedicated breeders that are keeping them ongoing.

Personality

As Spaniels do, Field Spaniels are high-energy and love running around and so on, but they are also incredibly sweet and loving and want to be companion dogs more than anything. They are incredibly eager to please their owners, and will even get anxious, if not slightly destructive, if they spend too much time on their own.

This makes Field Spaniels especially great around children since they tend to give out lots of attention, but you’ll just need to make sure you’re exercising them regularly to keep them fit, happy, and healthy.
