Introduction

There’s few who would disagree that Finnish Spitzes are one of the most beautiful dogs out there. Their foxy looks and stunning red-tinted coats make the Finnish Spitz incredibly unique, and this is only complemented by their beautiful attitudes and life-loving personalities.

All in all, Finnish Spitzes make great dogs to have at home, no matter where you live or what size family you have. These adaptable little pups will always bring a smile to your face.

History

The history of the Finnish Spitz goes back thousands of years when the Spitz line of pups that have been known to populate Russian territory. These dogs were bred by colonies there who then moved to Finnish lands and used these dogs as working dogs for tasks like hunting and tracking prey.

These dogs have been bred with local breeds over the centuries and eventually we arrive at the Finnish Spitz breed we have today. This breed is also known as Finland's National dog and is becoming extremely popular throughout Europe, especially in the UK.

Personality

While happy and a lover of the active life, Finnish Spitzes do tend to have a bit of an independent side to them that can make them a little defensive towards strangers and other dogs, and also a little harder to train than other breeds you may know. They also tend to have a very loud bark, which may not be ideal if you have close neighbours.

However, with firm, assertive, yet gentle and loving training, most potential problems can be avoided and you’ll be left living with a lovely dog that wants nothing more than to be a part of your family.
