Introduction

Don’t be surprised if your heart melts the moment you lay eyes on your little bundle of joy, the Kinkalow is known for it. This adorable little cat is instantly recognisable from its curved upright ears, short and compact size, and the cutest attitude you’ve ever seen. However, despite its affectionate nature and loving looks, this cat breed is still considered to be pretty rare!

History

Kinkalows are somewhat of a new breed in the cat world, and first started to appear around 1997. Here, a breeder going by the name of Terry Harris decided to try and create an adorable short-legged cat and decided to crossbreed the American Curl and Munchkin. The Kinkalow was the result, which was instantly recognisable for the short legs and curved ears.

It didn’t take long for the TICA association to register the breed, and many organisations followed suit, including the Dwarf Breed Association TDCA in 2008. However, at the time of writing, only ten or so of these cats exist and still need to be registered with the official cat breeding organisations, but that will only happen once the breeding standard has been set.

Personality

The traits and personality of the Kinkalows are relatively similar to their parent breeds. These are highly intelligent cats that love to both play and snuggle, and you’ll regularly see them running through your home at high speeds for no apparent reason. They just love to be active.

Despite their small size, don’t assume this means your cat is going to stay on the ground. These curious critters love climbing and exploring, and you’ll typically find them roaming around your home and just seeing what little spaces they can get into!
