Introduction

The Korat comes from Thailand and has a rather interesting history from the culture. Known as one of the most important good luck charms in the country, it wasn’t even until recently that Korat cats were not even bought but rather gifted by families to each other as a gift of good luck and good fortune.

Now with rising popularity all over the world, including the West, you’ll see how lucky it feels to have one of these beautiful cats yourself!

History

Korats have a long history in Thai culture, and there are records that date them back as far as the 14th Century, where they were still used as gifts, given from family to family, usually newlyweds who were starting their own. These cats were always given in pairs and are said to have come from Thailand’s Korat region before this.

It’s relatively unclear when the Korat first came to the Western part of the world, but many sources claim it was around 1896 since a breed of a similar description was seen in a show in England. However, this is unconfirmed as being an official Korat cat.

Personality

Since Korats have always had a close connection and relationship with human beings and have done for the last few decades, then it only makes sense that these cats are very affectionate towards humans, but they can even be described as protective. Let’s say you have some friends over. These aren’t the sort of cats to go and hang out with the new people, but they will stay with you and keep a close eye on the others.

That being said, Korats are very adaptable and will eventually warm to new people, especially children, quite quickly. Despite their small size, these beautiful cats have a lot of love to give!
