Introduction

There’s no doubt that the Kurilian Bobtail is one of the rarer cat breeds in the world, but still nothing short of beautiful, If you’re looking for a wild-looking cat that’s actually fully domesticated, super affectionate, and looks fairly unlike most other cats you’ll commonly find in homes, then the Korean Bobtail is certainly for you.

What’s more, these are one of the only breeds in the world that are fully natural and still have been accepted as a registered breed to organisations like The International Cat Association, which really makes this one cat that stands out from the crowd.

History

Kurilian Bobtails come from the Kuril Islands, of which they get their name, which can be found between Finland and Russia. Since they come from a small island complex, these are incredibly rare cats, and as of 2018, the TICA registered that the US only had 100 registered cats.

However, we have known of the Kurilian Bobtail’s existence on the islands for over 200 years, and have been a big part of island life since they’re capable of dealing with vermin and taking part in rodent control. Nevertheless, breeding is slow due to their known small litter sizes.

Personality

Easily the most defining trait of the Kurilian Bobtail is its ability to be social. Kurilian Bobtails are known for being super affectionate with their owners and love spending time with you. Don’t be surprised if you’re moving from room to room in your home and you see your cat sneaking around behind you. Don’t worry, they just want to be close to you!

Kurilian Bobtails are also known to be fairly active cats, so make sure you’re taking the time to play with them, so they’re moving, or at least have a large space at home where they can run around and satisfy this need.
