Introduction

Labradoodles are a sweet and curly crossbreed, which have absolutely skyrocketed in popularity over recent years. The reasons for their popularity are no secret - these sweet natured, kind and super sociable dogs are a joy to be around. What’s more, their intelligence and caring temperament have made Labradoodle dogs widely used as therapy dogs and guide dogs (as well as being a much-loved family dog).

Did you know? Labradoodles are renowned for being especially hypoallergenic. This is due to the fact that their fur does not shed much, making them easy to clean up after and a fantastic option for owners who are slightly allergic to other breeds of dog.

History

Labradoodles are a cross between Labrador Retrievers and Poodles. This particular cross breed is a relatively recent type of dog, as the first labradoodle pup was bred in 1989, by Wally Conran. The breed originates in Australia, where the Royal Guide Dogs Association of Australia were aiming to create a guide dog which was intelligent, calm and caring, while also being hypoallergenic.

Personality

These happy, fun-filled dogs are always keen to play. They’ve got a big supply of energy, so it’s important that you make time for a good long walk each day. Due to the fact that labradoodles are not a purebred breed, it is recommended that you meet the puppy (and ideally one of its parents) before you take them home. This is because the temperament and personality of an individual labradoodle is not as easy to predict (as it is with purebred breeds of dogs).

Labradoodles are devoted to their owners, and are a highly affectionate breed. In addition, they will also extend this friendliness to other pets in the house and young children. This all-round cheerfulness makes labradoodles a great option for any families who haven’t had a dog before. Quite simply, the main thing that they need is lots of love.
