Introduction

Lhasapoo dogs are always full of fun - no owner can help but be taken in by those sweet, deep round (and ever so slightly mischievous) eyes.

As with so many cross breeds, Lhasapoos demonstrate personality traits and behavioural tendencies that both of their parents would be proud of. The Lhasapoo breed is a cross between a Lhasa Apso and a Poodle. As a result, these delightful pups are characterful and excitable, while also displaying a strong protective streak (which comes as a result of their absolute devotion to their owners).

Did you know? Lhasapoos are a popular choice for owners who live on their own. They are sweet, joyful and remarkably loyal dogs, so will soon fill a small home with life.

History

Lhasapoos are a cross between a Lhasa Apso and a Poodle. As with many cross breeds, the Lhasapoo breed has only become a common, sought-after breed in recent years (having first originated between 10 and 20 years ago).

Poodle cross breeds agave soared in popularity over recent years. One of the main reasons for this is their hypoallergenic coat. This trait makes Lhasapoos a great option for anyone who typically suffers from pet allergies.

Personality

Thanks to the Lhasa Apso strain of their parentage, Lhasapoos have a strong defensive streak. It is in their nature to want to defend you and your home. Often, this can come across as barking or territorial natures, so be aware of this when training, so that you can work to mitigate it. One key way in which you can achieve this is by socialising your dog very early on, so that they are used to the presence of strangers, new smells and other animals or family members.

There are lots of plus points to this loyalty. Lhasapoos will always delight in the chance to have a cuddle with you, and will happily spend an entire evening sat with you on the sofa. They are a wonderfully affectionate, completely doting pet.
