Introduction

Originally an experimental breed the Oriental Bicolour is an outgoing and sociable breed. The breed has had multiple breed lines across the world. Vocal and intelligent this breed is a lot of fun to have for families of children are well behaved around their furry friends!

History

The first form of the breed came from the UK in the 1970s and the 1980s with the most prominent being from Pat Turner's breeding stock. The modern day Oriental Bicolour comes from a stock in the US by a Lindajean Grillo. Grillos stock originated from a Siamese and a domestic Shorthair. From there they took the best kittens from the litters and continued to breed until they had the aesthetic and temperament they wanted. The breed was first registered in 1983. From there breeders in Europe, especially those in France and the Netherlands, used this "recipie" to make their own breeding stock which produced a number of new colours into the breed. Sadly the last of Pat Turner's breeding stock died out shortly after his death in the early 2000s, but the breed lives on in other lines around the world.

Personality

Outgoing, intelligent, and affectionate these cats need a lot of mental and physical enrichment to make sure they don't display any boredom based behaviours. They love interacting with families and being the centre of attention, however some individuals may be prone to separation anxiety. They get on well with children and cat friendly dogs, however children need to be taught how to interact with cats to avoid any accidental injuries on either party. They can be vocal and love to have "conversations" with their humans or to chitter at birds! Oriental Bicolours love being a part of the family and are intelligent enough to learn tricks like playing fetch! Some individuals of the breed have been known to be more dog like than cat like.
