Introduction

One of the new designer hybrid breeds, Pitskys are a cross between the Husky and the American Pit Bull Terrier. This is quite a potent mix so the Pitsky is a full-on, powerful and sharp dog that needs experienced and professional handling.

One on one with their owners, the Pitsky is devoted and loyal but they do have to be kept in the right environment and for this reason, they are one of the more challenging of dog breeds. You might not think it but they do actually respond very well to children.

History

A recent cross-breed, the Pitsky has only really been around for a couple of decades. As with many new breeds, the driver was to create something new and original that no-one else had. Another consideration is the desire to breed dogs that have fewer health issues because the gene pool is not so narrow.

Pitskys vary in their appearance and temperaments from litter to litter, generally favouring one parent more than the other in their characteristics which is usually the case with cross-breeds. It is super important that only dogs with good temperaments are used for breeding as this is already considered to be a hybrid that is potentially sharp and aggressive.

Personality

Whichever parent this dog takes after, make no mistake the Pitsky is energetic and full of life. They do best in homes where there is plenty of stimulation, exercise and company otherwise their temperaments can boil over and travel the wrong side of the line.

The Pitsky is a powerful breed so early socialisation and hands-on training in puppyhood is essential. Households with other small animals and young children are probably not the right destination for this breed but, In the right environment, the Pitsky is a loving and loyal family dog.
