Introduction

As its name might suggest, the Pomapoo is a cross between a Miniature Poodle and a Pomeranian. This is a sweet and affectionate dog picking up lovely traits from both parents.

As a hybrid, there is no established breed standard or set of physical characteristics so each litter of puppies is different and will favour either one parent or the other. What they do all share, however, is the happy and friendly disposition of both the Pomeranian and the Poodle. These bright, intelligent dogs make the perfect companion or family pet.

History

The Pomapoo has no great history of its own as the breed has only been in existence a couple of decades. The desire for a hybrid is driven by a curiosity to experiment and to have something novel that no-one else has; fortunately, the two foundation breeds have very stable and pleasant characters so regardless of which parent each puppy favours, the outcome should be a happy and friendly dog.

The Pomapoo is also reputedly one of the new hypoallergenic breeds so does not shed coat in the home, great for allergy sufferers. The main thing when considering a Pomapoo puppy is to assess the parents carefully as they are the only indication you will have on the temperament and personality of the dog.

Personality

Both foundation breeds of the Pomapoo are lovely, friendly and gentle dogs so their offspring should all follow these traits. The Pomapoo is an engaging animal, focused on and interested in people and always eager to please. They can be equally as happy in a sole household as a family home and are biddable to train and easy to manage.
