Introduction

The Pugapoo is a first cross between a Pug and a Poodle and the plan was to combine the best characteristics of both breeds like looks and temperament plus offset some of the drawbacks such as the short nose of the Pug which can cause breathing difficulties.

A designer hybrid that has become very popular in the last twenty years, the Pugapoo is a sturdy and compact little dog which is highly adaptable and intelligent.

History

The Pugapoo is a relatively new designer breed but the foundation breeds, the Pug and the Poodle have long histories. The Pug dates back centuries and originates from China, arriving in Europe in the 16th century. Cherished by aristocrats and royalty, the Pug has always been a popular and high-profile breed.

The Poodle was originally developed in Germany as a water dog for hunting waterfowl and also traces its lineage back for several centuries although the breed actually developed in France. It is important to understand that crossbreeds don’t take an even amount of genes from each parent; the split is rarely 50/50 and so Pugapoos can vary hugely depending on which physical attributes and characteristics they inherit.

Personality

Pugapoos are right up there in the intelligence stakes but combines their smart attitude with a tractable and level temperament. They train well and cope with new environments with ease and generally get on well with other pets and children.

Pugapoos are affectionate and make great family pets, they also don’t need huge amounts of exercise but are always happy to join in with family activities.
