Introduction

Ragdoll cats are not necessarily what you would expect from a typical feline. This is because this breed is known for having dog-like qualities in a number of different areas. Ragdolls are remarkably intelligent. If you’re up for a bit of extra training, you can teach your cat to learn its name, be on best behaviour at home (even when they’re left alone), and even perform tricks.

Did you know? Ragdoll cats are super doting. They love to be in the company of their owner. So much so, that they’ll adoringly watch you walk around the house, and wander around after you.

History

Ragdoll cats are not as old a breed as you might think. In fact, the first Ragdolls were bred in America, in the 1960s. Ann Baker is the breeder who is credited with the development of Ragdolls. She worked to create a large cat breed which had gorgeous long fur in the colours that is trademark to a Himalayan cat. In addition, she wanted to give this cat breed a calm, loving nature.

According to popular rumour, Ann named the cat breed Ragdolls after their loving nature - and the way that they happily cosy up into the lap of the owner, just as if they were a rag doll toy.

Personality

Ragdolls love their owners, there’s no two ways about it. This is so much so that they’ll even come up to the door to say ‘hello’ when you get home. How cute is that?

The temperament of Ragdolls is often described as dog-like, and that’s with good reason. Not only are they incredibly loving, but they’re also so intelligent that they can quickly pick up new tricks (they’ll even fetch!).
